Thomas Beddoes to T. G. Estcourt, [?1808] [fragment]

Mr Estcourt seems to me to be on a diet that cannot be materially improved – White bread toasted may do better for breakfast – Cinnamon or nutmeg tea, & now & then ginger tea, may help the torpor of the bowels, & it is hoped, will not produce any collateral inconvenience – shd the 3 pills ordered move the bowels too much, they may be reduced to two – or even to one

– – – – –

a dram of carbonated kali after breakfast & in the evening with a teaspoonful of lemon juice will be adviseable – shd so small an addition of lemon juice create an effervescence that flies to the head, the kali must be taken alone

– – – – –

The stimulating ointment to be rubbed well on the stomach & belly once or twice a day for a constancy –
