Thomas Beddoes to T. G. Estcourt, 14 November 1808
Dear Sir
I believe it easy to throw light on the egg fact – Every stomach [xxxx] dissolves curdles egg, milk &c most stomachs dissolve that best which they coagulate themselves – In weak stomachs the contrary is often found – & it is only relative to the individual whether the digestion is better for letting the coagulation be performed by the stomach Every one must try for himself.
Thank you for the hare I shall drink it in mild soup – .
I had a sharp?? It went off leaving me drooping – One day 2 medl men said yr eyes are yellow. Next day I had pain of the liver – no secretion of bile – Leeches took off the pain & a mercurial purge produced the most kindly flow of bile – At this time I was crossed by a medical man, who stunned me with the advice to rub in mercury – This was absolute madness – But in my weak state I was overpowered – The rest is told – I am getting better.
Thank you for your hare I drank it as delicious simple broth.
5 or 6 days I did take the liberty to beg a few grapes if you have any left – Perhaps they may be on the road.
I am my dear Sir
yrs truly
Thomas Beddoes.
