Thomas Beddoes to the Secretary at War, 12 November 1808

12 Nov. 1808

To the right Honourable the Secretary at War

Dr Beddoes desires to add two sentences to his former paper.

The class of patients need not be mentioned; & as no body will know they are soldiers, no scandal can be given

The inspector of this district has from every regimental surgeon a case & disposition of every soldier who dies. If these papers so far as the practice extends in all the military districts of the kingdom & he was allowed to receive & return them post free, all difficulty wd be overcome –

Dr Beddoes must add that this is written with the hand of a sick man –

Endorsement: Sir / I really hesitate in obtruding a second time nor would I have done so if the short paper from Doctor Beddoes now enclosed were not simply an explanation of his first. Allow me to offer you my thanks for the very polite acknowledgement of my former letter & to assure you that I have the honour to be your much obliged & faithful servant
