Thomas Beddoes to T. G. Estcourt, 14 September 1808

My Dear Sir

I thank you for yr letter – I should have written to you just to say that after Saturday I shall probably be absent 10 days, as I am going to see an invalid far in Herefordshire – another on the borders of Merionethshire –

I also meant to request a sight of the sixth report of the military commissioners, which I understand includes an appx to the fifth – I will return it faithfully – The fifth must interest all inquisitive medical men – A pretty figure the medical board cuts, even upon their own shewing & that of their friends! – And yet I doubt not considering Sir Lucas Pepys & Mr Keate’s interest with the great that they will retain their places & patronage – & Jackson, whom I believe the most able & meritorious medical officer of the army kept [xxxx] upon half pay – The subject has been most compleatly described in numerous publications but I do expect the public or parliament to understand it – They will not take the trouble.

Upon ye strength of what you say I have written a few lines to Clarkson – of course, as I beg you to see, dropping <yr name> – I beg you to frank my note to him at Bury St Edmunds – If you chuse to write in yr own name, you cd speak more explicitly & he wd certainly thank you much

With compts to yr family I remain
My dear Sir
Yr truly obliged

Thomas Beddoes
