Thomas Beddoes to Davies Giddy, 26 July 1808

Dear Giddy

I remit a draft for four hundred and twenty pounds. This with the sixty five, if fifteen cd be dedicated from that in Mr Forster’s hands wd buy a five hundred pound Exchr bill – I am very willing to follow your recommendation of a mortgage of five hundred pounds –

I see a threatening advertmt from the Exchequer respg wills – My father left my sister five thousand pounds & not money enough to pay ye legacy so that the real property must be sold to make up the difference – Is there any act of parliament which makes it necessary to pay such legacies in out of the duty in a given time?

Here is expected a double increase of family – But Hester who is believed to have the precedence & her mistress hold up very well – Tom set off on Saturday for Ireland – I hear that Mr King is going to set up his carriage – I believe he is always ready to spend to the extent of his means – but seems likely to do well, if he retains his health – I am Dear Giddy

yrs truly
