Thomas Beddoes to T.G. Estcourt, 26 October 1807

My dear Sir

I am sorry to hear of yr new cold – but flatter myself it will rapidly yield I do not suppose the qty of calomel cd have any sensible effect in making your system more susceptible –

I think you do quite right to keep within – only please to keep cool (not cold) day & night –

If any lightness, pain or heat of breath shd arise to indicate inflammation, you had better take a little antimonial powder as no I & a little digitalis as no II – suspending the other medicine, ordered here till the new cold be gone –

The slowest possible decrease of the tumour in Mrs Estcourt’s maid will be quite satisfactory – It will be a long affair – I am much obliged to you for yr obliging expressions as to franks – The affair I troubled you about was an idea I want to disseminate pro bono p – I shall soon trouble you with a paper on the subject – I remain my dear Sir with compts

yr sincere sert

The digitalis drt if there be any feverishness or cough, will be useful probably whether the antimonial be taken or not – If it be taken, the digitalis shd be begun next day & continued perhaps for 3 or 4
