Thomas Beddoes to Davies Giddy, 29 July 1807
Dear Giddy
I send you my seven certificates for eight thousand dollars odd cents – I cd not send these yesterday, being away when yr letter came – I do not suppose 24 hours will make a material difference, as this depression on the first alarm may be as great as it will be at all till the certainty of war arrives – unless a sudden alarm brings all the Am. stock in the country into ye market You want specific directions – It is not specific enough to say – be so good as to do for me as you have for yrself If not or if you cannot, act at discretion – Certainly one does not expect every smooth as to property in these times & I should never reproach you even in thought, happen what may –
If you are yet a fortnight in town, I hope to send the books to you – I dare not ask for 25 more, I fear – for then my abstract begins, & yet speedy return witht detriment wd be the best inducement to the owner to lend them – I will if I can purchase the whole – & then the duplicates wd be useless – But I have a full translated abstract of those which I understood through Mr Deboffe Dr G. had to spare –
Wd not cold bathing (or warm sponging) obviate the effect of the hot weather – now less sunny but very close –
I think my family will return, before you leave town – Have you an object on the other road – I am Dear Giddy
yrs truly
Thomas Beddoes
