Thomas Beddoes to James Watt, January 1805
My dear Sir
I received some time ago the memorial of your loss and am truly obliged by this mark of your remembrance –
If Mrs Watt can think of the soup, for which she told me she had a receipt, I shd be glad of it – I send a copy of the last edition of the little book for the poor I hope you will think no improper introduction to a view of our proceedings – & of anything strikes you on a perusal, your criticism wd be thankfully received – It will be put to press in 2 or 3 weeks.
In furtherance of the plan for awakening vigilance in families, I am about to revive our popular anatomy Mr James Watt will remember its origin – He did not disapprove my outline, but observed that the lectures did not do it justice – We resume under better auspices
Mrs Beddoes had always a great predilection for your poor Gregory – If Mrs Watt wd favour her with a small portion of his hair it wd be a real gratification –
Mr Legge who is going to lose his only daughter by consumption & will return soon to reconduct her home wd bring anything. It might be given to Mr Barr – Mrs Beddoes joins in regards to Mrs Watt with Dear Sir
yr obliged & thankful sert
Thomas Beddoes
