Thomas Beddoes to James Watt Jr, 24 March 1802

Dear Sir

I imagine it possible Mr M. Boulton may like to know my opinion of Mr Boultons indisposition – & so I trouble you to tell him, if you choose –

It is certain that besides the old affection of the kidney, the liver & connected organs are much diseased – & the nerves greatly shattered – so that in a person of Mr Boulton’s age & imprudent habits – for example, his activity when he shd be quite still – these complicated symptoms may become dangerous & even fatal in no long time – However I think we have discovered at the pnc Instn some remedies which will almost certainly remedy all but the nephritic complaint & help to mitigate that –

I have ordered some to be prepared & shall forward them & write to Dr Carmichael tomorrow I told Mr Boulton I wd superintend their administration for 2 or 3 days if he thought it worth while – When we were closeted he talked of coming hither – but that would injure, & might kill him –

I am Dr Sir
Yours very sincerely

Thomas Beddoes
