Thomas Beddoes to Matthew Robinson Boulton, [13 August 1798]
Dear Sir
I hope you have at last received your French books. They were of great use to me & I hope be glad to have assurance that you did not feel much inconvenienced from the want of them.
Perhaps it might be in your power to render me an essential service in the line of German literature. Mr Deriabin advises me to give a discretionary commission to one Martine of Leipsic but says I must have a correspondent at Hamburgh who may pay Martine ready money, receive & forward the books – If your house at Hamburg wd do this I shd be very glad. The only precaution they need observe is not to pay above £25 <in one year> without especially directions from me – I shall give Martine this order – In case it lies in your power to serve me in this respect, I wd remit you £2 to serve for the ensuing Michs & the spring fair of 1799 –
I am
Dear Sir
with greatest regard
your obliged sert
Thomas Beddoes
