Thomas Beddoes to James Watt, 7 February 1798
Dear Sir
By last arrivals from Bombay we have accts of the cure of siphylis by a nitric bath – As Mr Keir has also got duplicates of the dispatches, I refer you to him. The oxygd muriate passes by the urine undecompounded in certain cases – There is a <speedy> cure for gonorrhea without local applications –
The public here is in great consternation on acct of the difficulty of obtaining a room for the chemical course I think the whole difficulty wd subside, if I cd get a large Black’s furnace – Can you get me one made – not luted – or tell me where to procure the drawings –
I am going to try to cure a consumptive case by vapour from cowdung & accompaniments – Does any mode of disposing vessels procure favourable extrication of these vapours – I mean to direct them towards the patient while asleep by tubes – I will let sheep instead of a cow into the room
If you have leisure to write a line respecting the furnace &c –
I am Dear Sir
Yours truly
Thomas Beddoes
