Thomas Beddoes to James Watt, 5 March 1795
Dear Sir
I received both your letters. I am delighted with your new projects: of which I shall say not a word in print – I conceive there must have been something like cross purposes, but I hope no irretrievable mistake – I wrote to Mr Pearson stating that I shd instruct Mrs Beddoes shd call for the plate & begging the favour of him to wrap it up safe: but conceiving she wd not return through Birm: I gave her no direction to call for it; & she never did nor desired any lady else nor ever had an idea either of the one or the other – The note I wrote was probably delivered by the brother of the Revd Mr Coates, a dissenting minister who keeps a school at Islington near Birmh , & I hope if Mr Pearson will have enquiry made of him that he can explain the mistake. I shall print your letters in the order of their date – I have reprinted that approximation towards the price of the several articles which is on the blue cover of your pamphlet –
I incline to your opinion concerning the efficacy of oxygene in foul ulcers. I have a most noble case from Mr Atwood the brother of the philosopher. It is impossible to conceive any thing more precise the detail or more satisfactory in the result – I have other good communications; so that I believe this new Ed. will be a most respectable publication – I am Dr Sir
Yours with true regard
Thomas Beddoes
