Sir

Since I had the pleasure of seeing you here I have had full exercise for my philosophy, and far from commencing Stoic I am confirmed in my belief that pain is an inconvenience. I have had a month's conflict with a rheumatic complaint even to lameness in my loins. I am ashamd to say that I have neglected to wait on Sir J Banks and suppose that I have now overstood the market.

Your letter is very candid as well as freindly; and I think your objection to the two lines in question well founded, but the word Squadron to my ear signifies exclusively a party of Horse Soldiers, I may be wrong in thus understanding it.—

A second edition is now finishing, so that this and one or two other trifling amendments must wait another opportunity.—
