40. Robert Bloomfield to Elizabeth
Glover, 9 October 1800*
London Oct. 9th 1800
My Dear Mother
I have just received and answerd a letter from the Duke of Grafton; I have
copied the letter and answer to Mr
Lofft, but I realy have so much writing that you must excuse my doing
so to you. My affairs are going on prosperously. I am likely to be a Master as
matters stand now. Indeed something shall be done. my income as a journeyman is
diminish'd through the publicity of my name; I have to visit and to write more
than I could allwash wish, my expence even for letters is not small. I expect a
young poet to come to town next spring. [1] I pay twelve
guineas per year for Rent. All these considerations have led me to think of
securing an income while it is in my power, and not to live upon the produce of
my writings whatever it may mount to. I have stated my ideas to Mr Lofft, and now to the Duke. I am happy, and am
very glad to hear by Isaac that you are tolerably well. Remember me to my Father and I remain your Dutifull
Son
