Letter 28 - The Letters of Robert Bloomfield

28. Capel Lofft to the Duke of Portland, 11 April 1800*

(Extract)

My Lord Duke,

I feel myself truly honord & oblig'd by your very kind letter received this morning.

With respect to the poems I am happy that some of those which your Grace has read and intended me the favour of bringing down if Sir C. Bunbury had not wished to see them, have appeared to you not unworthy of the reputation which Mr Bloomfield has justly earnt by the Farmer's Boy.

I concur in thinking that it would have been as well on the part of the publishers not to have been in haste to announce these additional poems.
