Madam

To you who long ago took the pains to transcribe the Millers Maid, and honourd me by your critical observations I feel bound to present a new attempt of mine, [1]  and to beg your indulgence if I have stept out of my element.

I have for months refrain'd from addressing you when I most wished to do it, on the death of my true friend, your late honour'd Father. I hope this, at least, will not be deem'd an intrusion.

And with gratefull acknowledgements and thanks, I am your Ladiships
