254. Robert Bloomfield to Mary Ann Bloomfield, 17 August 1810*

Dear Mary

I came last night to see Kitty and am now going to return to Sapiston, and shall call at the Duke's in my way, for they are all at Euston.

The most particular news I have to send relates to the intended journey of the Girls; I am allways preaching to Mary about her knack of reconing things sure when they are not sure, and thereby rendering a disappointment sharper. She knows that I came besides my business with Mr Austin, partly to try the pulse of the parties here about the reception of two Girls instead of one, and I find that Betsey Mothersole has been at home during their holidays and is going to day to school again sorely against her will. She will only go another half year, and then, say they, 'If they could come down next Summer they would be all together and could walk where they please', &c, &c' They express a hearty invitation on this plan, and would no doubt make them compleatly well [MS torn] At Mr Austins, I find the sm[MS torn] wellcome entirely. Now if M[MS torn] the present extreem uncertainty [MS torn] that it is very likely to be a [MS torn] Harvest, as well as bad weather to mid[MS torn] make up her mind to it [MS torn] as she can, and particularly [MS torn] I promise on my return to [MS torn] give her pleasure in some other way.

I think now that I shall not think of going round by Shefford, but return to Town on the Saturday or Monday. Love to All. I dont like this Country. I want to be home.
