235. Robert Bloomfield to Mary Lloyd
Baker, 16 January 1809*
City Road. Jan 16. 1809
Dear Madam,
Your letter delighted me, and this is a poor, pitiful return for
it, but I write for no purpose but to inform you of an accident that befell my lame Boy on Sunday
evening ye 8th—he was chearfull with his cousins over a
twelfth cake when he slip'd on stepping into a child chair and broke his leg.
(not the well leg) He has been well attended by a Mr Barnet on the spot, and I
hope from everything which at present appears, that all is going on right. This
is bad news for you to pay postage for, and for me to relate, but I write
because I am sure you would like to know what I am about, not because I am
overflowing with fancy and happiness, nor yet because on these dark winter days
I can write straight or gracefully, or what is worth reading. Sincere respects
to all at Stouts Hill, yours,
moderately,
Rob Bloomfield
