To Mrs Baker

Dear Madam,

I intended to write in the middle of the week that Mrs C Sharp might have recieved some answer to her last, for I meant to answer two letters in one. I have faild. And now I will briefly thank you for your invitation, and if I have health and spirits most gladly accept your kind offer. I wonder if Old Care ever travels to the tops of Mountains? if I thought he did not I would set off tonight upon my journey, and there wait your arrival. Amongst our list of names for the Anthems we have just recieved three who are titled 'Lady Lowther' [1]  I hope to get the job off my hands next week. If you should see, or write to your friend Catherine, thank her in my name for her services in procuring the names of Dr and Mrs Crotch. You wrote in company, so do I amidst a Wife and five children, the Cradle rocking, the room Scouring &c &c ——
