Letter 146 - The Letters of Robert Bloomfield

146. William Clubbe to Vernor and Hood, n.d. *

Gentlemen!

The proposal I lately made to Mr. Bloomfield of an English & Latin Edition of the Farmer's Boy—was suggested by some intelligent friends—who thought it almost necessary to the Foreign Readers—& very desirable for ye sake of easy comparison to the Classic at home—I knew nothing of his engagement with you—How far such an Edition may impede his interest or your own in ye circulation of those already extant you must decide.

I had no other Idea of course than that of offering the whole management of this business, if my proposal was acceded to, to Mr. Bloomfield & his publishers—If you see reason to reject it—I have every reason—both on Mr. Bloomfields account & your own to be perfectly satisfied.

I am Gentlemen

Yr very humble servt.

Willm. Clubbe
